Toyota Indonesia’s Continuous Export Growth
- Vios Export Volume Reached 3.500 units per Month-
Jakarta, 25 August 2014. Today, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) announced its export growth of sedan model, Vios, which reached up to 3.500 units per month since August 2014. This export volume growth of Vios gives contribution towards Toyota’s CBU export growth around 18% every month.
Vios has been produced locally in Karawang Plant II since December 2013. Three months later, this sedan made by local Indonesian people has been exported in a significant number with the amount of 1.500 units per month to countries in the Middle East region. Product acceptance based on good quality, on time delivery, and also highly competitiveness became the main reason of export volume growth for this sedan type of vehicle.
“Quality of Toyota Indonesia’s products with its durability assurance has been well accepted not only by domestic consumers but also by consumers abroad. We are pleased and proud in continuously improving automotive export. This is in line with our spirit and commitment in Indonesia’s automotive growth and development”, stated Warih Andang Tjahjono, Vice President Director of TMMIN.
Beforehand, total export volume of Toyota branded CBU vehicles is around 11.000 units per month. With the additional Vios export volume, the total export volume of Toyota branded CBU vehicles became 13.000 units per month.
Production and Export Base
To strengthen its position as an export base, TMMIN continues to improve export performance either through improved quality, including through expanding either the competitiveness of the market or the country of destination. "To strengthen its position as a production base we cannot solely rely on the domestic market, therefore exports should also be a priority," said President Director of TMMIN, Masahiro Nonami.
In the last four years (2010-2013), Toyota Indonesia's export performance continues to experience significant growth. Overall, exports of Toyota cars in CBU form increased from 55.796 units in 2010 to 118.436 units in 2013 or an increase of 112.27%.
"We will continue to strive in always looking for opportunities to develop the export performance of Toyota as part of the national automotive industry," said I Made Dana Tangkas, Director of TMMIN.
Toyota's export performance in the year 2014 showed a steady rate. Throughout January to July 2014, export volume of Toyota branded CBU reached up to as many as 78.872 units with the composition of 8.385 units Kijang Innova, Fortuner 27.866 units, 6.512 units of Vios and Yaris, Agya 5.472 units, 21.668 units of Avanza, Rush 559 units and Town / Lite Ace 8.410 units. This figure shows an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2013, with the amount of 69.861 units.
In addition to the CBU units, Toyota also exports vehicles in the form of biodegradable (Complete Knock Down / CKD), intact engine and vehicle components. Toyota CKD export volume from January to July 2014 amounted to 24.490 units. A total of 29.756 units of intact engine have been exported until July 2014. While the export volume of vehicle components recorded 35.8 million pieces.
The total value of Toyota’s export in 2014 until July reached more than USD 1 billion. Toyota has more than 70 destination countries spread across the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Australia.
Efforts to Increase Exports
In order to continuously improve export performance, Warih added, TMMIN had been pursuing several things, among others, improving the competence of the Human Resources (HR) in order to maintain global quality standards of Toyota products and paying attention to consumer feedback.
In line with the spirit of "Build people before the build products", Toyota realised that employees are an important asset for the company. The quality of human resources will result in higher-quality products. Toyota has some excellent programs in human resource development including staff exchanges between fellow affiliates of Toyota, idea suggestion, Quality Control Cycle (QCC), and engagement of employees in the skill competition at the national, regional and international scale. Toyota has also provided an integrated training facility to support the human resource development program.
Towards consumer feedback, TMMIN has always been maintaining good communication with importers regularly and provide immediate respond if there are complaints from consumers. "We make regular visits to the importing countries to obtain consumer’s desire and respond quickly to consumer’s complaint", said Warih.
